MARCH 15, 2021
Dear Fellow Kardamylians and Friends of
Kardamyla:
We hope our newsletter finds you, your
families, and loved ones in good health. Much
has transpired this year and extremely
important has been the COVID-19 pandemic that
has affected all of us. Hopefully, the
development, distribution and administering of
the coronavirus vaccines will soon bring that
to an end. With
the uncertainty regarding regulations for
large gatherings, as well as, people feeling
comfortable, we have decided not to have the
dinner dance this fall.
We have decided it is more prudent to
delay it until the Spring of 2022 – currently
the Dinner Dance is scheduled for March 12,
2022. We expect that by that time the pandemic
will be over, and people will feel more
comfortable socializing.
The work at the building has been on hold due
to the severe winder. It will soon resume with
the boiler repairs and sewer line replacement.
As often is the case, the original job
has uncovered other items which need to be
addressed so that the building is up to New
York City building codes. Additionally. our
negotiations with the city for rent arrears,
has not progressed due to city delays – we are
still working on that.
We would like to again thank those that
have responded so generously to our appeal for
help with donations to the Emergency Building
Fund. We
also would like to urge those who have not to
consider sending a donation.
Due to the prolonged pandemic lock-down, we
were not able to have our usual Basilopeta/
Scholarship event in January.
As an alternative, this year, we
decided to mail the awards to the students
directly.
The dead-line to return the enclosed
applications for the 2019-2020 school year is
April 30, 2021.

This
year is a symbolic year for Greece as it marks
the 200th anniversary of the
outbreak of the war of independence against
the Ottoman Empire.
So many
heroes and heroines who gave their lives to
achieve freedom and independence for Greece.
